SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
|
|
• Pierre Creamer is named head coach on June 4.
• Mario Lemieux is named MVP in the NHL All-Star Game in St. Louis after scoring three goals, including the game-winner in OT, and three assists.
• Lemieux sets Penguins season records in goals (70), assists (98), points (168) and power play goals (22).
• Lemieux wins the Art Ross Trophy for scoring and the Hart Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Penguins player to win the award.
• Tony Esposito is hired as vice preseident and general manager on April 14.
• Pierre Creamer is relieved from his coaching duties on June 14.
